GlassVu and Dilad Screens are equipped with their own adhesive, protected by a layer of transparent plastic.
If an acrylic substrate is selected rather than glass, ensure that your choice of acrylic will not emit a gaseous discharge that will form bubbles under the screens.
Your installation requires; a spray bottle filled with water and a few drops of neutral detergent, a rubber spatula or squeegee, a lint-free cloth, and adhesive tape.
We strongly recommend that clients rely on a qualified Window Tint Professional for all installations.
Factory Installation (permanent)
- Mark the target position of the screen with adhesive tape placed at the four alignment points on a clean substrate. Make sure the substrate has been thoroughly cleaned and that any cleaning agents have been wiped away with water.
- Spray the top horizontal edge of your target area with the water solution. Peel back the adhesive layer from the corresponding area of the screen and spray both sides.
- Start working the spatula to move water out from under the film and at the same time, begin exposing more of the adhesive layer while keeping both sides sprayed down.
- Continue this process until the layer protecting the adhesive is removed.
- Wipe away any excess water on the substrate and confirm that the screen is aligned with the original tape markers. At this critical stage, begin working away any water trapped between the substrate and the screen using the spatula. Start from the center and work outwards, always spraying the exposed surface in order to reduce friction.
If you have done a professional job at this point, you will have eliminated most or all of the water under the screen.
- As the adhesive quickly dries, it will pull the screen tighter against the substrate and this in turn will isolate small pools of water that will appear as bubbles.
- Continue to check on the screen for the next hour, and if any bubbles form, spray down the exposed surface and work the bubbles out to the edge. Check in a couple more times over the next few hours.
- The adhesive will be completely dry within the next 48 hours.
Large Format Screens: Multiple panels can be joined together through a variety of means. In doing so, the installer assumes the responsibility of cutting the panels and correctly bringing factory edges together with precision, as these lines may otherwise be visible to the casual observer.
Cling Film Installation (removable)
Cling Film is a transparent film that attaches to
glass but not always to more porous acrylic (where it may also fuse permanently). It is offered in roll widths measuring up to 10000 x 1345 millimetres · 393 x 53 inches.
TCI has performed limited testing of Cling Film for use with our GlassVu and Dilad Rear Projection Screens. We have determined that under certain conditions these screens are easily applied to the Cling Film and remained in place for the duration of testing. We anticipate, but do not guarantee similar results in the field.
Importantly, the use of Cling Film allows for GlassVu or Dilad to be installed temporarily to a location.
When your screen is to be relocated, the Cling Film can be replaced or potentially re-used for a subsequent temporary installation, or allow the screen to be permanently installed using standard procedures.
- Thoroughly clean the glass and wipe away any cleaning agents with water. Mark the target position of the Cling Film onto the outside of the glass with tape or markers.
- Using a common sprayer for house plants, apply a mist of water to the target area where the Cling Film will be installed.
- Separate the Cling Film from the liner using care not to stretch or crease the material.
- Place the top edge of the Cling Film into position and then slowly allow the entire Cling Film to gently attach to the glass.
- Apply a light mist of water onto the Cling Film. A very small amount of mild soap in the water allows the squeegee to run smoothly over the surface. If any large bubbles are trapped it may be necessary to lift the Cling Film off the surface and re-smooth it from that point rather than trying to force the bubble to the edge which may stretch or crease the material.
- Squeegee the excess water out from the centre to the edges of the Cling Film. A soft kitchen spatula wrapped in wet cloth works well. Note that it can take a few days for the water used in the installation process to fully evaporate.
- Slowly increase pressure once you have removed the majority of the water. Do not allow the surface become dry as you laminate. Wait 30 minutes before applying the Rear Projection Screen.
For all but the smallest sizes, 2 people or more are required for smooth installations.
Handle the Cling Film and the GlassVu or Dilad carefully to avoid creasing or tearing of the material. Never lay either on any surface that can cause scratches.
Any water used in the installation may take a few days to fully evaporate and will appear as a misty area over the entire surface until it clears.
GlassVu · Dilad Installation (removable)
- Remove the screen from the transport tube with care. Roll out the GlassVu or Dilad onto a flat, smooth surface that is free of dust and lint. Cut the screen to size using a straight edge and fresh razor.
- The screen must be smaller than the Cling Film or it will pull away at the edges.
- If the screen does not naturally lay flat after being rolled, let it settle until it does.
- Determine which side of the screen is covered by the protective layer. It is this smooth reflective side that will be applied to the Cling Film.
- Apply a mist of water mixed with a very small amount of gentle soap to the back of the Cling Film.
- Carefully align the top edge of the GlassVu or Dilad 2-3mm below the top edge of the Cling Film, and then slowly allow the entire screen to gently attach to the Cling Film.
- Using the squeegee, work from the centre to the edges of the screen and carefully smooth out any air or water bubbles that occur during installation. A soft kitchen spatula wrapped in wet cloth also works well.
- If the screen requires re-positioning carefully lift a corner to gently remove and repeat the installation process.
- If cleaning is later required, use a soft lint-free cloth and clean from the centre of the GlassVu or Dilad to the outer edge.
